INTRODUCTION

Hello guys, I'm referred to as Oyinkansola (instagram: oyinakinwunmi_). I’m a computer science student in her penultimate year in a university (@landmarkuniversity) in Nigeria. I started designing in 2019 but I had to stop due to some internal issues but I'm willing to pick up Design again. I’m currently learning from the basics.

Also, I developed an interest for Data analysis in 2021 and I’ve taken time out to think deep about this decision, do research on people in this field and understand the various industries that i can potentially work in. Now I'm ready to take on Data analysis and Graphics design like my life depends on it because it does.

I recently applied for the Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate and I’m in the first phase which is the “Foundations: Data, Data, everywhere” and I think I'm doing alright for now.

I’m also following people like Thu Vu, Luke Barousse, Ken Jee and others here on Medium and YouTube to help with career advice, portfolio creation, data science/ analysis projects etc. I hope this journey is worth it for me in the end.

I have faced many challenges that stopped me from designing and pursuing a career in data analysis. Some of them are:

  1. No Laptop. When I started designing I had a great laptop( or at least so i thought), I installed the adobe products that I needed at the time and it was going all fine until one day I thought it was a good idea to have other adobe products on laptop at the same time. I installed Photoshop, Premiere pro, InDesign and Illustrator. My laptop started to Lag and Lag until it finally damaged. So I had to stop designing as a whole.
  2. Inability to navigate my way properly through the voluminous information that exists on the internet. I started to experience fear and anxiety (anxiety has caused me to start typing here then stop and then finally delete) anytime I opened my browser to search.
  3. Lack of community, I’m not sure if I caused this but I've been unable to surround myself with people that share same/ similar goals as me. It has also been difficult to reach out to the big people in Data Science/ Data Analysis to get advice and guidance from them. I tried with one person and I gave up because I didn’t get any response.

I guess I have to keep trying to reach out to people. Anyways, this is the first post and i hope you enjoyed reading it. I hope to write many more posts as the days go buy. Kindly follow me on my Instagram and Twitter That Data Babe

PS: I still don’t have a laptop, I’m borrowing one and hoping that I'll get one as soon as possible.

Thank you so much for reading. See you in the next one.
